The Great Migration
The great migration is a spectacular wonder of the world where almost two million wildlife trek for over 1800 miles as they migrate within the Serengeti and Maasai Mara ecosystem. The migration is motivated by search of grazing pastures and water with wildebeest and zebras representing a large population of the migrating wildlife. This event usually starts during late July when this wildlife migrates from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya. It usually can take place until late October.
The great migration is characterized by dramatic events especially when the herds of wildebeests and zebras are crossing the river. They have to face a challenging situation of dodging giant Nile crocodiles found at Mara and Talek rivers. People on a safari often go near the rivers and watch the river crossing and the dramatic events that occur. While on a safari, you can choose to have your breakfast and lunch while you enjoy this magnificent event by the river. Aside from crocodiles in the river, there are also various predators including lions, leopards and cheetahs waiting on the other end of the plains.
