Masai Mara National Reserve

Masai Mara which is one of the best wildlife reserves in Africa and the world is located in South-west Kenya. It is characterized by scenic rolling savannahs plains populated by a diverse wildlife and birdlife. It stretches for over 1500 kilometers (580 sq miles) where it conjoins with Serengeti National Park in the far end of Tanzania and other conservancies forming a quite incredible ecosystem. It hosts over 95 mammal species and almost 600 species of birds.

Masai Mara is famously known for the great migration from July through to October where over 1.5 million wildebeests accompanied by other wildlife migrate, crossing the Mara River to the savannah plains of Masai Mara. This migration has been recognized as one of the greatest wonders of the world. Anyone looking to experience this should book a safari within this period and they will have an experience that will last in their memories for a lifetime.

Masai Mara is also home to the big five i.e., lions, leopards, rhino, buffalo and elephants. There is other wildlife that roams in this habitat which include: giraffes, zebras and cheetahs.

The Masai Mara is surrounded by the Masai community; nomadic inhabitants who are known to preserve their culture and peacefully coexist with the wildlife surrounding them. During your trip, you can choose to visit Maasai villages and interact with the locals where you can acquire souvenir items such as Shukas and bungles that are made locally.
